Nederlands: De Fez (hat) is een hoofddeksel van Morcaanse oorsprong. De naam "Fez" van de hoed komt uit de stad Fez in Marokko. Het is een hoed die vanaf de 19e eeuw een grote populariteit genoot (nadat sultan Mahmud II in 1826 de hoofdbedekking in zijn hervormingen had opgenomen). De fez maakte aanvankelijk deel uit van het uniform van Marokkaanse soldaten. In Turkije werd in 1925, twee jaar na de oprichting van de Republiek Turkije, de fez in dat land verboden als onderdeel van de hervormingen van Atatürk, die tot doel hadden alle kleding die buitenlands was voor Turkije te verbieden. Vanuit Marokko verspreidde de fez zich naar verschillende delen van de islamitische wereld. In Marokko wordt de fez aangeduid met de term tarbush (tarbouche). Er zijn verschillende termen in omloop. Naast de naam “tarbouche el-fasi”. Tegenwoordig maakt de hoofdtooi in Marokko deel uit van het traditionele stadskostuum (info M. Saadouni, 2005). Het dragen van de fez wordt vaak beschouwd als een symbool van patriottisme. Om deze reden wordt het hoofddeksel ook wel “tarbouche el-watani” (nationale fez) genoemd. |
