English: Cahirciveen Heritage Centre, formerly the Royal Irish Constabulary Barracks The heritage centre is housed in the converted Royal Irish Constabulary Barracks overlooking the river and marina. The castle-like structure was built after the Fenian Uprising in 1867 to suppress further revolts and to protect strategic Valentia Island, landing point of the transatlantic telegraph cable.
The Old Barracks is situated in Cahersiveen at the bottom of Bridge Street, next to the river. The exhibition features items of local history, archaeology, flora and fauna. |
