s. In spite of the light rain I decided to paddleover to Nishat Bagh, so with the boys and thesweeper started off in the shikara ; the boys werealways full of fun and spirits and treated the wholetrip as a sort of holiday and paddled hard andspurted out of pure animal spirits. Crossing thelake we passed boats busy gathering weeds andmud for gardens, others in groups of sixes or eightsfishing together with nets, but the most picturesquewas the solitary spear fisherman, who, standingin his small boat, his sunburnt body clad only ina loin cloth, motionless with arm and spear upraised,looked like a bronze statue, and on this dark smoothwater the reflection was as clear as the object. The green weeds below teemed with life and thesefishermen make a fair living by their take thoughthey sell the fish for very fittle, for we bought twoweighing about half-a-pound for half-an-anna (Jd.). To reach Nishat Bagh one passes from the Northpart of the lake through an arch carrying the raised PLATE IX.
