Description
Deutsch: Das Kastell Gholaia, das durch antike Quellen auch als castra Chol(aia), [G]olas sowie in der Tabula Peutingeriana als Chosol überliefert ist, war ein römisches Militärlager, das für Sicherungs- und Überwachungsaufgaben am vorderen Limes Tripolitanus, einem tiefgestaffelten System von Kastellen und Militärposten, in der römischen Provinz Africa proconsularis zuständig war. Inschrift AE 1976, 698 = AE 1988, 1102, im Leptis Magna Museum, Libyen. Aufgrund ihrer Treue zu Kaiser Maximinus Thrax und dessen ihm loyal gebliebenen numidischen Statthalter Capelianus bei der Unterdrückung des Usurpators Gordian I. (238) ließ der nachfolgende Kaiser Gordian III. (238–244) die Legio III Augusta auflösen und den Namen der Legion ebenfalls eradieren. Die Inschrift wurde auf den Türsturz zur Cella des Tempels von Vanammon Augustus gemeißelt. Das Fundstück wurde 2006 im Archäologischen Museum von Leptis Magna photographiert.
