Rose, 1 st wife of George Evelyn, of Kingston-on-Thames, and of Long Ditton, Godstone, and Wotton, all in the co. of Surrey,and daughter and heir of Thomas Williams, brother and heirof Sir John Williams, Kn4- married circa 1550, died 1577,buried at Long Ditton, 21 July, 1577. Half length, seated.In black and embroidered gown and ruff. Canvass 30X25 in-Copy by Miss Lancaster Lucas of the portrait on panelat Wotton in the possession of W. f. Evelyn, Esq. 62. Julia, wife of Edward Evelyn, of Felbridge (No. 60), and daughter of James Butler, 2nd Duke of Ormonde, died19 Feb., 1771. Three-quarter canvass. PORTRAITS, &C, AT 2, CARLTON HOUSE TERRACE. 49 63. Elizabeth Hardwick, Countess of Shrewsbury, daughter of John Hardwick, of Hardwick, co. Derby, and sister andcoheir of John Hardwick, of that place. She was born1520, and married (1) 1532-3 Robert Barlow, of Barlow, co.Derby; (2) 20 August, 1547, Sir William Cavendish, whodied 25 Oct., 1557; (3) Sir William St. Loe, of Tormarton,co. Gloucester; (4) George Talbot, 6th Earl of Shrewsbury,whom she survived. She died 13 February, 1607-8, aged 87.Her estate was worth ^60,000 a year, and she built five greathouses, Worksop, Bolsover, Chatsworth, Hardwick, andOldcoates or Owlcotes, the latter being unfinished at herdeath.
