That it is an old variety, its merits having been strangely overlooked, asis often the case with valuable fruits. It has in this respect the advantageover new kinds, as its reputation in many important requisites is well estab-lished. 2d. It is healthy, hardy and very productive, never suffering from mildewor freezing, and uniformly yielding large crops. 3d. It_is a superior wine grape—the wine grape of America, producing anaverage annual yield of 500 gallons per acre, which readily sells at from $4:.50to 86.00 per gallon. Wherever the wine has been exhibited, it has received unqualified praise.At a recent meeting of the Lake Shore Grape Growers Association, held inCleveland, the Wine Committee, consisting of Hon. Marshall P. Wilder, Dr.John A. Warder, George Graham, John Mottier, and others, pronounced it ofthe very highest character. 8

IVES. Prof. Thnrhor. in au article on American wines, in the Agriculturist, says:At the exhibition of the Lake Shore Grape Growers Association, we sawabout one huudred samples of wine. The wine which, deservedly, attractedthe most attention, both on account of its rarity and fine quality, was thatfrom Ives. Tt is a red wine somewhat like Burgundy, and gives promisethat we shall not long depeud on foreign countries for a supply of wiae ofthis character. We make the following extract from the Keport of the Ad Interim Com-mittee of the Ohio Pomologioal Society for 1866: •This standard variety (the Ives) continnes to gain friends and admirers;and the price of cuttings remains as last year, at $40 per 1000, but none can behad now even at this price.
