Summary[edit]
DescriptionCellulose Nanotechnology (36931269271).jpg | The process of moving cellulose nanomaterials (CNs) from a research endeavor to a commercial application took a big step forward in late July. Engineers and scientists at Oregon State University (OSU) worked with a local Ready-Mix concrete company, Knife River Corp., to conduct a full-scale test of cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) in a concrete truck on 26 July. This was the first practical test of its kind for CNCs in concrete, following up on years of research and testing at smaller scales. The intent of the test pour was to ensure that adding CNCs to concrete resulted in a material that looks and acts like regular concrete, but with the improved material qualities that nanocellulose offers. The test is a significant milestone on the path to building a bridge using concrete with CNCs, which will be the first of its kind, in Siskiyou County, California. (POC is Marcus Taylor) |
