Commemorative token depicting Admiral Vernon
Description
English: Copper alloy circular shaped commemorative medal dating to 1739. The medal is decorated with an image and inscription on both sides. On the obverse is a depiction of (presumably) Admiral Vernon from the waist up, standing right and holding a sword in his left hand. In a thin border around the edge of the medal is the inscription: 'THE BRITISH GLORY REVIV'D BY ADMIRAL VERNON'. On the reverse of the medal is a depiction of ships in battle, with the inscription: 'WHO TOOK PORTOBELLO WITH SIX SHIPS ONLY' around the edge. At the bottom of the picture is: 'NOV 22 1739'. The medal weighs 16.93g and measures 37.28mm in diameter and 3.5mm in thickness.
