Object history

Das durch ein von Rot und Silber geviertes Kreuz weist auf die jahrhunderte lange Arbeit der Trierer Kurfürsten hin. Das Mühlrad erinnert an die weithin bekannte Dohrer Mühle im Ellerbachtal, die erst 1927 ihre Arbeit einstellte und von der heute noch Ruinen zeugen. Die Dohrer Mühle lebt in vielen Gedichten und Sagen weiter. Das Mühlrad steht auch für den bis ca. 1960 ausschließlich landwirtschaftlich geprägten Ort. Der silberne Adler bezieht sich auf die Herrschaft der Grafen von Are. Der stilisierte Keltenwall erinnert an den Ursprung des Dorfes und an die Ableitung des Ortsnamens vom keltischen „Dunon“.

Das blütenähnliche schwarze Ornament, dem Kelch der Filialkirche in Dohr entnommen, weist auf die damalige Zugehörigkeit der Gemeinde Dohr zur Pfarrei Cochem hin. Der Kelch wurde im 16. Jhdt. vom Pastor und Definitor zu Cochem der „Capella zu Dohor“ geschenkt.
