In einer Urkunde Papst Eugens III. vom Jahre 1148 werden Ort und Kirche zu „Luofenvelt“ dem Abt zu Echternach als Abteibesitz bestätigt (Wampach, Echternach, 1, 2, Nr. 205). Die Abtei Echternach führte ein Lilienkreuz, mit Schwurhand belegt. Das Lilienkreuz ist im zweiten Feld des Gemeindewappens aufgenommen. Die Kirche in Laufeld war die einzige Pfarrkirche in der Grafschaft Manderscheid (Wackenroder, Kreis Wittlich, Seite 190). „Der hohe Turm ist als verteidigungsfähiger Kirchturm von den Grafen von Manderscheid um 1500“ erbaut. Wegen der Bedeutung des Turmes, und wegen der charakteristischen, nach oben verjüngten Bauform, ist er im ersten Feld wiedergegeben. Vom 14. Jahrhundert bis zur Französischen Revolution gehörte Laufeld zur Grafschaft Manderscheid. Der Manderscheider Sparrenbalken, im Schildfuß wiedergegeben, deutet darauf hin. |
