DUR-1276B2 : Medal : Modern
Description
English: A complete Copper alloy medal of Modern date (AD 1850-1900). The object is a flat, circular disk with a single circular perforation at 12 o'clock.

The obverse depicts two female figures, representing saintly temperance guiding a child between them while turning away from devilish intemperance, represented by a triple headed snake in the right of field. Below the legible portion of the inscription reads: Children.

The reverse depicts clasped hands and a wreath boarder within which the inscription: I DO AGREE THAT I WILL NOT USE INTOXICATING LIQUORS AS A BEVERAGE//HEALTH/INNOCENCE/PEACE

These medals were part of temperance movements focus on preventing children from using liquor as adults.

The metal is a dark browning grey in colour with a smooth patina.
