Het vliegtuig is inderdaad een KLM DC-6B, maar niet de DC-6A PH-TGA Dr.ir.M.A. Damme dat heeft deelgenomen aan de luchtrace Londen - Christchurch. Das was dus een DC 6A, herkenbaar aan twee raampjes achter en een grote vrachtdeur. Bovendien had het vliegtuig achter, naast de deur een groot witte cirkel met daarin in zwart het cijfer 21 moeten hebben.
