Description
English: This artist's concept, courtesy of Ball Aerospace and Technologies, Inc., depicts the Deep Impact spacecraft. The mission will send a copper projectile into comet P/Tempel 1, creating a football field-sized crater as deep as a seven-story building. Spacecraft instruments and ground-based observatories will study the icy debris blasted off the comet, as well as the comet's pristine interior material.
