| Description |
English: Derelict railway track Formerly the trackbed of standard-gauge GN&LNWJt Northampton-Melton-Bottesford-Newark line. The Eastwell line came down the escarpment on a rope-worked incline and joined the GN&LNWJt at SK759293. This particular view it is used as a footpath; but there are numerous sections where all signs of the railway have been erased. The Eastwell quarry closed in 1958 and rail traffic ceased with it.
Harby Hills: site of former ironstone railway incline. The ironstone was then tipped into mainline wagons and taken to Stanton and other ironworks. |
