63 pronounced it a dislocation of the knee cap,but that it was not possible to reduce it. Afterthis she consulted several doctors and bonesetters in search of relief, but in vain. In1859 she was taken to the Queens Hospital,Birmingham, from whence, after a period oftwo months treatment, she was discharged muchrelieved, but not quite free from pain. Thisimprovement continued for three years. In 1864she went on the Continent, and whilst abroadin that year was laid up in bed for three monthswith a return of her previous symptoms. Shewas again relieved, and able to travel fortwelve months. In 1867, while at Jerusalem, she had areturn of all the previous symptoms intensified.This attack continued for four months, and, notbeing able to get sufficient relief to enable herto attend to her duties, she returned to Englandfor the purpose of consulting me.
