Summary[edit]

Description

Cana Island Lighthouse is another of the many beautiful lighthouses in Door County. It is also a very old lighthouse. It was built in 1870. Originally, the tower and the keeper's quarters were made of cream city brick. After 30 years of exposure to the elements, the bricks of the tower were badly deteriorating. It was decided to encase the tower in plates of iron to stop the deterioration. With that change, the lighthouse has survived another 115 years.

The station is now managed by the Door County Historical Society.
