MILLERS OBSERVATIONS ON THE WASTING OF TOOTHTISSUE, VARIOUSLY DESIGNATED AS EROSION, ETC., VIEWEDIN THEIR RELATION TO THE POWER POSSESSED BY SALIVAOP CONTROLLING ACID DECALCIFICATION. By JOSEPH HEAD, D.D.S., M.D., Philadelphia, Pa. AS one who has been experimentingfor the last four years on the sub-ject of enamel erosion and abrasion,I should like to offer a few criticisms onDr. Millers detailed and suggestivework. In the Cosmos for April 1907, page4.06, I asked why Dr. Miller relies uponthe litmus paper test to determine thealkalinity, neutrality, or acidity of thesaliva, when the same saliva will fre-quently turn blue litmus red, and redlitmus blue; while Sutton, the greatauthority on acidimetry, says that a sa-liva which is neutral to litmus may beacid to turmeric paper and alkaline tolacmoid or Congo red?* In the JulyCosmos, page 677, Dr. Miller in answersays: I have no particular litm
