Description

St. Nicholas' Church, Church Street, Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland

English: Tablet in memory of John Murphy and his brother Francis Eastwood Eastwood. Both were grandsons of Ann Atkinson neé Eastwood (1759–1823) and thereby descendents of the Eastwood family on their maternal side. After the male line of the Eastwoods died out, Francis inherited most of the fortunes of the Eastwood family and, by condition, changed his family name to Eastwood in 1886. (See David M. Eastwood, “A History of the Eastwood Family in Ireland, 1600-1850.” Journal of the County Louth Archaeological and Historical Society, vol. 24, no. 3, 1999, pp. 407–30, JSTOR 27729854.)
