Description |
English: Post Medieval copper alloy nut crackers, 97mm long and 31mm wide. The object is in very good condition with a brown patina and weighs 58.6 grams. The object consists of two identical parts hinged together at the top. The upper part is made up of two solid plates which are sub semi-circular in section, having three flat areas which are carved with foliate decoration. The inside surface has three lines of triangular nicks designed to hold the nut in place. Below this is an ornately turned area 20mm long before the 'handles' emerge. These form an oval space and are semi-circular in section. They widen out towards their the centre before tapering in again and terminating with turned out points. These are a very good exampple of their type. |
