Endoscope.—The endoscope or urethroscope is employed to obtain avisual examination of the mucous membrane of the urethra, and mayalso be used in the treatment of localized areas of inflammation, erosions,infiltration, and inflammation about the urethral follicles, granularpatches, papillomata, and polypi. Such treatment can only be carriedout ))y the aid of this instrument, the lesion being first exposed by it THE ELECTRIC LIGHT AS AN AID TO DIAGNOSIS 185 and then the desired drug being apphed by means of a suitable appli-cator. An example is shown in Fig. 127. That of Fenwick is arranged Fig. 127 Valentines urethroscope.
