Summary[edit]
DescriptionEnglert Theatre interior showing box seating, 1918.tif |
English: This image presents the original interior of Englert Theatre which was destroyed by a 1926 fire. The curtain is raised to reveal a stage setting, the orchestra pit is furnished, and seating boxes hang on each sidewall even while considered fire traps, and were not rebuilt after being destroyed in 1926. |
Date | (original publication), although the image itself probably was recorded during September 1912 at the time the theater was opened, given that it carries an architect's identification in the lower right corner. See comments in the "Author" cell below. |
Source | The Red and White annual (yearbook) of Iowa City High School, 1918, that was "prepared and published by the Class in Journalism, 1918." The image is taken from a copy contained in a City High School annuals collection in the private Hibbs Research Library of Iowa City History. |
Author | The 1918 journalism class at City High in an advertisement prepared by class members. No copyright appears on this ad, nor in the volume itself. The notation "C.W. & Geo. L. Rapp, Archts., Chicago, D1030" appears in the lower right corner of the image. |
