DescriptionEsmond Atkinson • Forest Lore of the Maori • p370.tif |
English: The tawhiti kiore (rat trap) was made by pushing two rods (aka) about 6 inches high, made from the stems of climbing plants, into the earth across a 'rat-run'. Some small straight sticks were pushed down into the spaces to create a fence, allowing the rats to pass through the centre. A plain cord-loop which was attached near the upper end of a spring stick which was bent immediately over the trap.
