An FBAT team member from the Summit Fire Use Module describes the use of the camera box. The crew uses fire-resistant boxes for video cameras and a heat trigger device to safely videotape fire behavior inside fire areas. "So this is our camera box, that we use for FBAT." "It is insulated to reduce heat. It has a clear front." "You can see it's kind of pink right now, some (fire) retardant fell on it." "So what goes in the box is, you have this little holster here, it holds a GoPro (camera). " "It also holds a trigger box, it has batteries, so we have a GoPro that's turned off, we have a trigger box that's connected to some wires." "It sits inside the box so that the camera can see out." "Attached to the trigger box there are some wires that go out here. So we add some more insulation." "We'll put this up, its on a tripod, that goes into the ground, so it sits up high in the ground." "At the top, where the trigger box is here, there's trigger wire that goes out and we set up trigger wire." "Basically, if this was the center of our plot, there'd be trigger wire that goes around our whole perimeter." "And so once the fire comes in, the fire comes in and it burns the trigger wire, and the trigger wire burns and it activates the trigger box and it starts the camera." |
