Summary[edit]
DescriptionFirst Sprint missile test at Meck Island.jpg |
English: Test launch M1-9 on 28 October 1970 was the first Sprint missile launch from Meck Island in the Kwajalein Atoll. A complete Nike-X base was built on Meck, which changed hands to Sentinel and finally Safeguard as the programs changed. The test ended after only 0.8 seconds because a software problem aimed the tracking radar in the wrong direction. The problem was fixed, and the same mission re-flown successfully in December as M1-9A. A total of 34 test launches would be carried out at Meck, 32 of them successful. |
