DescriptionFort Edmonton 1870.jpg |
English: Fort Edmonton, Canada, October 1870. Fort Edmonton or Edmonton House, was the name of a series of Hudson's Bay Company trading posts from 1795 to 1891. The fort competed for business with the North West Company's Fort Augustus from 1795 to 1821. Fort Edmonton was the terminus of the Carlton Trail, the overland route for Métis freighters between Red River and the west. It was also an important stop on the York Factory Express route between Fort Vancouver (Oregon) and London, via Hudson Bay.
Fort Edmonton was also called Fort-des-Prairies and Amiskwaskahegan (Beaver Hills House). |
