Motivazione della Medaglia d’argento concessa al Sottotenente pilota FRANCESCO DE SETA:

Sottotenente pilota in servizio di allarme per la difesa di Tripoli, sull’imbrunire, al pronunciarsi di una incursione di ingenti forze aeree avversarie contro il proprio aeroporto, si lanciava sul suo apparecchio e partiva all’attacco pur senza essere allenato al volo notturno con l’apparecchio che montava.

Mentre attaccava un aereo nemico costringendolo a lanciare il proprio carico di bombe disordinatamente, e pur sotto il fuoco rabbioso delle armi avversarie, lo inseguiva mitragliandolo fino a vederlo infilarsi in mare. Tornato verso l’aeroporto, attaccava un altro apparecchio, lo costringeva a rinunziare all’offesa e lo colpiva con ripetute raffiche abbandonandolo solo quando vedeva sprigionarsi dal velivolo nemico un principio d’incendio. Andava quindi all’attacco degli altri aerei della formazione sino ad esaurimento delle munizioni, pur avendo il proprio apparecchio in più parti colpito da pallotole nemiche. Infine atterrava brillantemente in piena notte, alla scarsa luce del secondo quarto di luna.
