**THE DEVILS SLIDE, WEBER CANON. * It will be remembered that the Devil has anotherslide in the Yellowstone Park. i88 MY HOLIDA Y seem to have had a great liking for his blackmajesty, or they would not have given hisname to such splendid scenery. About two hundred miles east of Ogdenwe passed a place called Rock Springs,where a number of Chinamen had beenbrutally massacred by white miners a weekor two before. Two Chinamen had taken up a whitemans chamber, and when ordered out theChinamen went at them with their picks.A general battle ensued, in which two menwere shot. At night their village was set fireto, and it was said that several Chinamenin trying to escape from the fire were shotdown by the miners, and about fifteen othersperished in the flames. Soldiers from the nearest fort were sentfor, and several miners were arrested, but itwas found impossible to get sufficient evi-dence to convict them.
