Summary[edit]

Description
English: Friendly tug-of-war, Western Front, during World War I. French and British troops having a friendly tug-of-war. In the background there is the entrance to a dugout and a large pile of shells forms the foreground. It is interesting to note that, apart from their caps, the French have very little uniform and are dressed in what appears to be a mixture of civilian clothes.

The relationship between the Allies was often strained, so photographs which showed good relations between British and French troops were important propaganda tools.
