Le Tong-kiang Jfc f£ vient du Kiang-si fxWi et ^aitplusieurs coudes, arrondis vers lO., dont le dernier estprès de Hoei-tcheou fou j* jil/£f • Cest là quil se jette,par un petit delta, dans Je grand delta du Si-kiang ;f £Q,par la rivière des Perles. Il reçoit de nombreux affluentset offre un excellent réseau navigable. Le Han-kiang ffi jX, na ni la même importance,ni le même intérêt que les rivières précédentes, aupoint de vue de la navigation, mais ses affluents, dont leprincipal est le Mei-kiang ;g jfc, ouvrent des voies versle Fou-kien fg Jg, et son delta, couvert de cannes àsucre, possède un bon port, à 8 kil. de la mer :

CHAPITRE III. LE KOANG--TONG. 149 Chan-teou \\\\ g ou Swatow (dit aussi Soa-teou). Richesses agricoles. — Le sol des montagnes estrocheux et peu fertile, mais celui des plaines, des deltas,des vallées, est excellent et bien irrigué, aussi donne-t-il jusquà 3 récoltes par an. Les principaux produitssont : le riz, la canne à sucre, le blé, la casse, le thé,le tabac, les arachides, le gingembre, les oranges. Oncultive aussi la soie dans le delta du Si-kiang ;;f ££,lortie de Chine, surtout dans le N., le chanvre, lindigo.Le jonc, planté dans les alluvions récentes, sert à fairedes nattes, qui sont lobjet dun grand commerce.
