Title
The Ground Platt of ye Kings Bath & ye Queens Bath
Description
English: The depiction of the Great and Circular Roman baths at Bath, Somerset, England, from the figures decorating the margins of Moll's map of "Somerset Shire" (Somerset), the sixth in his Set of Fifty New and Correct Maps of England and Wales...

The caption reads: "The Ground Platt of ye Kings Bath at high water holds 345 Tuns 3 hog. 20 Gall. The Ground Platt of ye Queens Bath at high water holds 81 Tuns 1 hog. 30 Gall." Together, they held 427 tuns, 0 hogsheads, and 50 gallons on the assumption that the hogshead is a quarter tun and Moll's tun held 252 gallons. The gallons of Moll's era varied widely, but the modern equivalent would be somewhere between 405,000–497,500 liters.

Note that the baths are reversed in position or the "plat" can be considered to face South. The Queen's Bath was named for Anne of Denmark, wife of James I of England, who was sent to the baths by her court physician; being surprised by a natural gas flame on the water in 1615, she subsequently only used the smaller nearby bath.

Notes: London: Sold by H. Moll over-against Devereux-Court in the Strand; Tho. Bowles, Print and Map-Seller near the Chapter-House in St. Paul's Church-Yard, and J. Bowles Print and Map-Seller over-against Stocks-Market. 1724.
