Description
English: A U.S. Navy Grumman F8F-2 Bearcat of Fighter Squadron 32 (VF-32) "Swordsmen" in flight, in 1949. VF-32 was assigned to Carrier Air Group 3 (CVG-3) aboard the aircraft carrier USS Leyte (CV-32). The pilot of the plane is Jesse Leroy Brown. He was the first African-American to be trained by the U.S. Navy as a naval aviator, and such, became the first African-American naval aviator to see combat and the first to be killed (on 4 December 1950).
