A I jliil in Leipzig. The Hofbarg, generally called theBurg, residence of the Austrian princessince the 13th century, is a long-,straggling structure, erected at variousperiods. The Innere Burghof, isembellished with a Monument of Em-peror Francis II, in bronze, by Mar-ch e si, ol Milan. The old Residence, is on thesouth-west side of the Burghof, inthe Leopoldinische Trakt. The GuardHouse or Hauptwache is on the right.The Reichskanzlei-Palast, on the north,contains the state - archives. TheAmalienhof is contiguous to the Fran-sens-Platz on the north-west. It wasbuilt at the end of the 17th century andoccasionally occupied by the EmpressElizabeth. Here is also the office ofthe Oberstallmeister. The passage onthe left, leads over an old drawbridgeto the Schweitzerhof, the most ancientpart of the Burg. The entrance to the Imperial Libraryis in the Josefs-Plats.
