Haaland Discusses Solutions to Address Gun Violence at Cleveland High School

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Rio Rancho, N.M. – After a school shooting threat at Cleveland High School last week, Congresswoman Deb Haaland (NM-01) joined students and faculty at a pep rally to discuss solutions to address gun violence.

“Students should not fear going to school, but mass shootings and active shooter drills infiltrate our classrooms,” said Congresswoman Deb Haaland. “We’re working on common sense gun reforms aimed at addressing gun violence. My heart goes out to students, teachers, and families who were struck with fear, and I’m relieved no one was hurt last week.”

Congresswoman Deb Haaland is a proponent of common sense solutions to address gun violence including measures that will:

Ensure every gun buyer gets a background check, even at gun shows; Ban civilians from owning military-style rifles which were involved in 6 out of 10 of the deadliest mass shootings in American history; Prevent anyone from owning devices that turn semi-automatic weapons into machine guns such as a bump stocks used in the Las Vegas shooting; Make it illegal to own guns that are untraceable by metal detectors; Protect victims of domestic violence by giving law enforcement the authority to take guns away from convicted domestic abusers, and;

Create a national gun buyback program to get make our neighborhoods safer by getting guns off the streets.
