Ranks first in cattleand cotton, second in sugar, sheep, mules and horses. Coal area6,000 sq. miles, quality good. Iron ore and salt deposits extensive.Other minerals found, but extent unknown. Improved landaverages $8, and unimproved $3 to $4 per acre. Uncultivated andtimber land seven-eighths of area, timber area one-fourth. Cli-mate varies, temperate at North, semi-tropical at south.
