Harbiye Cemil Topuzlu Open-Air Theater was an element of Henri Prost’s zoning plan for İstanbul that was already underway in the late 1930s. The theater was designed by Nihat Yücel and Nahit Uysal. The opening ceremony took place in 1947, but the building was not fully completed until 1950. I“Küfeki” stone and “Uzunköprü” stone were used in the facade. The first performance was “Oedipus the King” by Sophocles. The theater was given the name Cemil Topuzlu, after a former mayor of İstanbul, in 1958.
