Summary

[edit]
Description
English: London, Ontario, ca. 1900.
Hellmuth Ladies’ College was opened on September 23, 1869, serving as a select ladies’ college until 1899. When the property was finally sold, some of it, including the college, chapel and organ, was bought by the Sisters of St. Joseph. Mount St. Joseph remained the Mother House and orphanage for school-aged children from April 29, 1900 until April 3, 1914 when the Sisters moved to Sacred Heart Convent. The building continued to be an orphanage until 1953, when the orphans were moved to Fontbonne Hall. The old orphanage, renamed Fatima Hall, housed the Mount St. Joseph Academy, studios for St. Joseph’s School of Music and classrooms and playrooms for the Mount St. Joseph Kindergarten and pre-Kindergarten over the years.
