Toneelgroep Amsterdam - Het temmen van de feeks van William Shakespeare Nederlands: In Padua, waar 'Het temmen van de feeks' zich afspeelt, wordt de samenleving bepaald door geld en winstbejag, door economische in plaats van ethische principes. Deze 'behaaglijke tuin van het verheven Italië', tempel van Renaissance en handelskapitalisme, is een vlekkeloze stad waar het exces slechts één keer per jaar, tijdens het carnaval, toegelaten wordt. Katherina is de weerbarstige dochter van de handelaar Baptista. Zij wijst elke huwelijkskandidaat af. Men vindt haar chagrijnig en noemt haar een feeks. Petruchio gaat de krachtmeting aan en wint: Katherina onderwerpt zich. 'Het temmen van de feeks' is volgens Ivo van Hove meer dan alleen maar een luchtige zestiende-eeuwse komedie over verleiding of over de strijd tussen de seksen. In zijn tekstlezing benadrukt hij, naast Shakespeares onverholen kritiek op de samenleving, de verhulde tederheid tussen twee geliefden en hun gevecht voor elkaar binnen een unieke liefdesrelatie, wars van politieke of zakelijke overwegingen. Katherina est la fille rebelle du riche marchand Baptista. Elle rejette tous les candidats au mariage. On la trouve acariâtre et on la traite de mégère. Petruchio accepte l'épreuve de force et gagne: Katherina se soumet. D'après Ivo van Hove, 'La Mégère Apprivoisée' est plus que seulement une comédie légère du seizième siècle sur la séduction ou la lutte des sexes. Dans sa vision du texte, il souligne outre la critique ouverte que Shakespeare exerce sur la société, la tendresse cachée entre deux amants et leur lutte à l'intérieur d'une relation amoureuse unique, libre de toutes considérations d'affaires ou de politique. According to Ivo van Hove 'The Taming of the Shrew' is more than just a light sixteenth-century comedy on seduction or the battle of the sexes. In his interpretation of the play, in addition to Shakespeare's undisguised criticism of society, he emphasises the hidden tenderness between the two lovers and their struggle for each other in a unique loving relationship that is free of any political or commercial considerations. |
