Entitled "How the microscope reveals adulteration", this plate is credited to Edward R. Bolton. The photographic reproduction depicts arrowroot adulterated with rice starch. Both under magnification, the left image illustrates rice starch with the right side showing arrowroot. The middle section illustrates a mixture of starch granules from rice and arrowroot. This plate is found within The Romance of Modern Chemistry, which is a layman's introduction to topics in chemistry.
