and the ulna (ih, ss) are distinct. Theremains of apparently a metatarsus show two of the larger and two of the rather moreslender of these bones. All bespeak a reptile capable of progression on dry land, aswell of swimming in the sea; of one that might leave impressions of its foot-prints on atidal shore. The skull of a rare New Zealand Lizard is figured in Plate XXV. fig. 5, as comingnearest to the Ehynchosaur in the proportions of the divided premaxiUaries (%b. 22), eachwith a large and long tooth, which, were it completely confluent with the bone, wouldadd still more to its resemblance to the New Eed Sandstone fossil.
