Description
Français : "11 y a trois ans seulement que M. Henri-Gabriel Ibels a été sollicité par l'affiche. La première qu'il ait produite est celle du Mévisto, du concert de l'Horloge, un pierrot en pied, qu'on appelle, je crois, L'Entrée en scène. Cette affiche est restée longtemps la pièce maîtresse de son œuvre; il l'a dépassée maintenant, en publiant le Mévisto, du concert de la Scala. plusieurs lois reproduit et toujours remarqué: c'est la banlieue parisienne dominée par une usine couverte de tuiles rouges et dont les cheminées fumantes montrent l'activité. Au loin, un travailleur courbé remue le sol; plus près, suivant un aride sentier, un soldat s'éloigne de l'usine et, songeur, rentre à la ville: plus près encore, un ouvrier gouailleur et flémard, assis sur l'herbe, allume sa pipe. Au premier plan. Mévisto contemple ce spectacle. Aucun des personnages ne parle, mais il serait facile de traduire la pensée qui les agite." (Ernest Maindron, Les affiches illustrées (1886-1895))
