NIAGARA WHARF. 1792. From old Fort George, whose ruins can barely beseen from the river, went forth the gallant General Sir 14 Isaac Brock to nifet his untiiiiply end at QueenstoilIlfights in 1812. The old barracks of Butlers Rangers onthe great common, and St. Marks Church, whose tomb-stones still bear the marks made by the enemys meatchoppers, are worthy of a visit. Evidence of the fighting days at Niagara-on-the-Lake is furnished by old Fort Missassauga, at the mouthof the river, which can be seen from the deck of thesteamer. Its flag-crowned walls are carefully preserved, together with many other historic relics of the past whichadd to the interest of the stranger. A recently erected museum of historical documents andarticles of interest, is well worth a visit. Just opposite Nia§ara-on-the-Lake, upon the UnitedStates shore, stands OLD FORT NIAGARA, one of the most historical spots in North America, bearingwithin its walls the relics of almost two and a half cen-turies.
