Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The 14thC chronicler, John of Fordun, relates that after his victory over the Angles in the battle of Athelstaneford in 832 AD, King Angus of the Picts set King Athelstane's head on a pike and placed it on Inchgarvie as a warning that this was the start of Pictish territory. The story is the first recorded suggestion of a ferry crossing at this point on the Forth (otherwise the warning would have been pointless).
