Description |
English: Incomplete cast copper alloy hair pin of Roman date, probably the first or second century (AD 43 - AD 200). Length 52m. Weight 3.57g. The solid head of the pin, 6mm in diameter, is in the form of a flattenned sphere and has a central depression in the top which is about 3mm in diameter. There is no moulding beneath the head and no indication that the depression was filled with glass or enamel. The shaft tapers slightly. Beneath the head it is 3mm in diameter and at the other end where there is an old break, the diameter is about 2.5mm. The surfaces have a mid-green patina where the metal is not corroded. |
