As president ofthese organizations he showed unusualability as an executive officer. His workin this connection brought forth the fol-lowing admiring comment: Considerateof the opinions of others, courteous tothose who hold views different from hisown, forceful and clear in argument, calmin judgment, energetic and persevering inwhatever he undertakes, his marked char-acteristics of leadership have gained forhim a notable record in the profession ofmedicine. In medical legislation, collegeand hospital management, his counsel andadvice are sought, and to their advance-ment he has given his time at the sacrificeof his own personal interest. He was deputy coronerof Marion County two years, and for overseven years superintendent of the CityHospital, changing it from a rude barrackinto a modern hospital with a full-fledgedtraining school for nurses, making it amodel for all the hospitals since estab-lished in Indianapolis. For twenty yearsDoctor Wishard has confined his medicalwork to genito-urinary surgery, and standsin the front rank in the country in thisdepartment of surgery. He has been aleader in Indianapolis in establishing theMedical Registration and ExaminationBoard, and the Indiana State HealthBoard, of which he was president. DoctorWishard has also been a leader in medicaleducation as well as in medical legisla-tion.
