Printing intaglio from a metal plate using a portable printing press.

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Intaglio printing process involves both etching, and engraving, and dry point methods. Any process whereby print is made into a [metal] surface. The scratched or acid etched, or engraved marks that make the design, afterwards have ink rubbed into it, then wiped, and then printed using damp papers. They are always printed under great pressure using various special printing presses. This one [in video demo] is a smaller tabletop printing press specially made for the method, which requires very heavy pressure to force the ink into the printing plate. It is heavy duty machinery [ and much more specialist than a domestic mangle is].

It is the pressure which forces the ink onto the damp paper - so making the print on the page. This very edited brief video shows an etched plate being run through a small intaglio printing press, and the print made is displayed afterwards.

The information provided here is based upon the practical experience and knowledge of the craftsman involved, over several decades, actual workshop experience, and from actual practical knowledge applied.
