Description
English: An iconic photograph from the Iranian revolution in 1979. The story behind it is featured in a book by Amir Hossein Fetanat, who claimed to know the woman and her husband: "Uniformed in denim jeans, baggy jacket, and bob-length hair, Mandana had joined the throngs of students flocking to the armory once they caught news of the victory. A friend recognized her amid the commotion and handed her a machine gun.... At the gates of the university, a man approached Mandana. He wanted to take her photograph atop a nearby tank. Flanked by two male protesters, Mandana climbed the tank and posed. She raised her left arm to the sky and threw up V-for-victory fingers. With her right arm she clutched the weapon tight against her body. The man got his picture, and Mandana returned to the streets. It so happened that the photographer was Mehdi Sahabi, a prominent author and translator who worked at Kayhan, one of the mostly widely read newspapers in the country." (Source)

This tag is designed for use where there may be a need to assert that any enhancements (eg brightness, contrast, colour-matching, sharpening) are in themselves insufficiently creative to generate a new copyright. It can be used where it is unknown whether any enhancements have been made, as well as when the enhancements are clear but insufficient. For known raw unenhanced scans you can use an appropriate {{PD-old}} tag instead. For usage, see Commons:When to use the PD-scan tag.
