Notes tunic - Lieutenant - Victoria Rifle Volunteers - circa 1900 Belonged to Vaughan Collet Cooper Vaughan C Cooper first enlisted with the Victoria Rifle Volunteers in 1895. He became Colour Sergeant and later Acting Lieutenant for the unit which, in 1898, was absorbed into the 1st Battalion Auckland Infantry Volunteers, and became the 3rd (Auckland) Infantry Regiment (CRO). In 1912 Cooper transferred to the Officers Reserve but during WWI he was posted overseas with the 34th Reinforcements and there joined the 3rd Auckland's as Lieutenant. A few years after the war Cooper transferred to the 1st Battalion Waikato Regiment. He was awarded both the Volunteer Service Medal (1908), the British War Medal, the Victory Medal and the Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long Service Medal.
