Description

BURMA FIRST ORGANISED JAP PARTY SURRENDERS


The first organised party of Japs - troops of the 53 Infantry Div. - surrendered on Sept 24 to 1/10 Gurhka Rifles at Mokplain village in the Siitang bend.

This Gurkha Battalion is a unit of 17 Indian division. It received the surrender on the spot where, in 1942, the Division was defeated by the Japs.

Guns handed over by the Jap party lie axle-deep in rain water. In background, Japs hand in small arms.
