On the first day is added the benediction,in which God is thanked for having sparedthe worshipper to enjoy this season. Notonly the precentor but many a layman isprovided with a lulab and ethrog. The palmbranch and the citron are lifted up in fullview of the congregation during the renditionof psalms of praise and the recitation of aprayer for Gods redemption, taking placewhile a circuit is made around the synagogue.On Sabbath the lulab is not taken up, as the 4 Lev. 23 : 40.
