I decided to visit the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library, located on University of Massachusetts - Boston campus. The gift shop, which offers books and merchandise that concern various US Presidents. John F. Kennedy was the first man of Irish heritage, and the first Roman Catholic, to serve as the US President; fast forward to today, and the current President is Barack Obama, the first nonwhite person to serve as US President. Glad to see that qualified, talented people can continue to serve in the White House regardless of their background or ethnicity - I hope to see a woman President soon! Every United States President since Hervert Hoover (1929-1933) has had a Presidential Library established after his service. All are run in conjunction with the National Archives, to house various records and documents pertaining to a given president's term(s). The Kennedy Library is the only Presidential library in New England, commemorating the first US President of Irish and/or Roman Catholic background. |
